Local fantasy-romance author discusses her debut novel at Dover Public Library

By Kyle Valentini

The Dover Public Library will welcome local author Addy Mason as she discusses her debut novel, Fated; book one of a new series she began just over a year ago. A book signing will follow the discussion Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the library as part of their ongoing Meet the Author events.

Mason is a native of the area and currently resides at New Philadelphia. She is a wife and mother of two boys and considers writing her third career. Mason works outside the home 30 hours a week, attends college part time and still finds time to volunteer at her sons’ school. “I am a mother and a wife first so writing usually happens only at night after my boys are in bed, on the nights that I don’t have schoolwork to do. I have managed to complete the first three books in this series on this schedule,” said Mason. She plans on writing a total of seven books in the series she titled, New Era.

Mason’s self-described book is a fantasy-romance. “It has Fates, Fairies, Druids, Mortals and Immortals. At its heart it is a romance between the next Queen of Fate, Nari and a human. Although I have been told by both my husband who isn’t into romances and other test readers who aren’t into fantasy books that there is something in there that anyone can like. It’s definitely a book for adults though. I don’t recommend it for anyone younger,” said Mason.

The debut novel begins long ago when the Immortals used humans as their armies against other Immortals in wars over land and ego. Because of this, the mortal population was nearly decimated and the Earth was badly damaged. The Immortals were moved to a higher vibrational plane to allow the mortal population and the Earth time to heal and Immortals were forbidden to have contact with mortals. Centuries later, the next Queen of Fate’s Amulet leads her through a cave where she encounters and falls in love with a human male, Kellen Marlett. This is obviously forbidden, since she is Immortal.

When Nari is imprisoned following a betrayal by another Immortal who wants her for himself, Kellen must team with Nari’s sister, Indra, to travel through time to find and reunite the three parts of the Ancient Book of Druids to help Nari. Along the way, he discovers that history may not have happened as we have always thought. He also learns who built some of mankind’s most mysterious structures.

The discussion and book signing is open to the public and refreshments will be served. To register, call the Dover Public Library at 330-343-6123. The library is located at 525 N. Walnut St. at Dover.
